The Most Common Questions About Our Product
Answered in plain, easy to understand English!
A. Data pages stored on the ID device are created using software you already have on your computer. Programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, AbiWord and PowerPoint, among others, work well to create pages. There's no need to get fancy, unless you want to, because your objective is to create a couple of pages anyone can open and view on their computer and easily understand. Once you've created your masterpiece you simply save it to the device. AbiWord, a MS Works replacement, is available for free.
Q. How do I create data pages to physically store on the device?
Q. How do I save the data pages to the device?
A. Once you've created your data pages in your program, such as MS Word, it's a good idea to first save it to your hard drive as you normally would. Once you have a copy on your hard drive you simply plug in the idmypet ID device, allow your computer to recognize it, and then go back to your document and click "Save As". When you click "Save As" a dropdown window appears with all the devices your computer sees. Double click the larger partition of the ID device and your computer will save a copy of it to the device.
Q. How do I save photos on the device?
A. That's easy! Assume you're using MS Word to create your data pages. First create a text box somewhere in your document by clicking the text box icon. Make the text box the same size you'd like the photo to be, not too big though. Now, at the top of the screen click "Insert" then "PIcture" then "From File". A window will now open with your photos and you simply double click on the photo of your choice and it will appear in the text box you created.
Q. Do I really need to create files and store them on the device for it to work?
A. No you do not because we've thought about everything! You can simply attach the device to your pet's collar and leave it at that. You just need to make sure you register your pet's profile online so when someone finds your pet they can enter the ID number online and get all the info they need to return your best friend. The data pages you create and the database online are a redundant sytem to ensure your pet can always be identified.
Q. What is the Capsule device made out of?
A. The idmypet.com Capsule is constructed from a very sturdy aircraft grade aluminum alloy and consists of 4 pieces. The ring, which is used to attach it to your pet's collar, the cap, which attaches to the ring, the microchip, which screws into the cap and the black rubber o-ring which seals out water. The microchip is permanently embedded within the device and surrounded by a white semi-flexible polypropylene plastic making the unit shockproff to 1000g's.
Q. Can someone steal the device from my pet and use it for their own pet?
A. Just about anything can be stolen, if someone wants that item bad enough. However, if your idmypet.com ID is stolen, whoever takes it can not do anything with it. Once you report a device lost or stolen we will flag the data records immediately. Plus, without the unique password someone who steals the device will not be able to register or update profiles and Med-eData information. So really, stealing the device makes no sense.
Q. Is Med-eData really a useful service?
A. The reason we developed Med-eData was because of a personal experience which is explained on the home page. It's important to remember that many folks these days take their pets to different veterinarians. Taking your pet to the same vet is not as common as you going to the same doctor. If you move across town, chances are you'll find a new vet closer to your home. Because these records are avialable 24/7/365 any vet can instantly know your pet's medical history.
Q. I have no idea where to plug in the device, where does it go?
A. The idmypet.com ID device is designed using the same basic principles as a USB drive. Therefore, your ID device is made to plug into any available USB port on your computer. Most computers today offer USB ports on the front of the computer as well as the rear panel. If you have a USB port on the front of the computer we recommend using that one, since you'll only be plugging it in for a very short time.
