User Information
Easy To Set Up And Even Easier To Use!
The idmypet.com device takes pet identification to the next level.
Information to help you better understand the technology.
1. Both the Capsule and Micro contain a non-eraseable partition, which can not be manipulated, deleted or changed. This partition contains the pet's unique ID number and a direct link to the idmypet.com website. When someone locates your pet and plugs the device into their computer, they may click on this partition to open the contents and then click on the link to be directed to our site. When someone clicks on the non-eraseable partition, they will see a screen similar to this one
2. Both the Capsule and Micro contain a second, editable partition. In this partition you may store any information you wish about yourself and your pet. We have created several templates for you to download and use in the "Getting Started" section of our website, or you may create your own data pages. In this second partition you may store photos and even flash video provided the file size limits are not exceeded. Anyone who finds your pet may click on this partition to view the information you have stored. The device does not use any batteries of any sort, data is retained in solid state memory.
3. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, when the device is first plugged into a computer, a window will appear on the screen in about 5 seconds or as soon as the computer recognizes the device. In Windows XP, depending on the user's settings, the user may navigate to "My Computer" to access the device. The device will appear in the list under "Devices With Removeable Storage". The first partition will contain the ID number and the ID number will be visible on the screen, the second partition will immediately follow the first partition.
4. Very small electrical currents are present only when the device is plugged into the USB port of a host computer, however, there are no voltages or electrical currents present while the device is being worn by a pet. Once plugged in the device uses +5 VDC (positive 5 volts direct current) @ 500ma (500 milli-amps) for operation.
5. With regards to the Capsule device, if you notice that the black rubber o-ring, which seperates the cap from the device housing, is missing or damaged, do not attach the device to your pet's collar. It's better to remove the device to prevent loosing it and contact idmypet.com for a replacement o-ring. We provide a set of 5 replacement o-rings for a small $1.50 shipping and handling fee. These are enough o-rings to replace once every two years. To purchase replacement o-rings please
6. Water is an excellent conductor of electricity. This is why it's never wise to have a plugged in hair dryer within falling distance of a filled bathtub. Because water molecules are tightly woven and stick together quite well, they create a chain for electricity to travel through. For this reason, if your idmypet device has been exposed to a water source, do not plug it into a computer until you are absolutely certain the contacts are dry. To check for hidden moisture in the Capsule, unscrew the cap from the device and shake it up and down and blow into it. With the Micro you may simply expose the contacts and blow into the device until dry. Once water stops coming out of the device blow on the contacts once again to ensure they are completely dry. You may now plug it into a computer.
7. With both the Capsule and Micro devices the silicon casing around the delicate circuitry keeps all water out of the chips. We have taken every precaution and tested nearly every scenario to ensure the device functions the way we say it does. We have tested the device by applying a steady stream of water from a hose and then allowing it to fully air dry. Once dry, the device was plugged in and it operated perfectly. We have placed the devices at the bottom of a swimming pool for several hours and, when dried off, they worked perfectly. One must just ensure the contacts are fully dry before plugging it into a computer. If the device has been directly exposed to water, shake the device up and down and blow into it until it is reasonably dry. If you notice any moisture on the metal contacts, you should NOT plug the device into your computer, it's better to wait a few minutes.
8. When tightening the Capsule, ensure the cap is screwed on properly and tightened until the o-ring begins to bulge equally around the circumference of the device. This small protrusion will provide enough pressure so the cap will not unscrew itself. Check the cap for tightness every few months, especially if you have a very active animal.
Unlike other devices, we guarantee that the Capsule will not unscrew itself if tightened properly! The heavy duty o-ring prevents this!
All new purchases of the idmypet.com ID devices include a one year subscription of the ID database and Med-eData database at no extra charge. After the first year the subscription fee is a very reasonable .79 cents per month billed annually. It's important to remember that in order to maintain an extremely large database on an international level, and to ensure the database system is never down, idmypet.com must contract with a third party provider. This provider is a large communications company in the Silicon Valley of California with large modern servers and redundant systems to ensure a 99.95% uptime average. However, in order to provide the service we do, there are certain costs associated with maintaining these servers. idmypet.com leases these servers on a yearly basis because purchasing this type of equipment is cost prohibitive and requires a certain amount of space. The partnership we have with our provider guarantees we have provided the most reasonable rate possible to our end users. It's also very comforting to know that idmypet.com's servers and databases will be there for you when need them.
